Fire causes extensive damage to garage in Lemon Grove

LEMON GROVE — A fire caused significant damage to a garage in Lemon Grove on Sunday morning, but firefighters stopped it before it could spread to the main house, an official said. The fire started about 3 a.m. at the home on 69th Street near Madera Street. A resident was alerted to the fire when he heard “some popping in his garage,” Heartland Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Brent Baum said.
“He came out to find the garage filled with smoke and fire,” Baum told OnScene TV.
Firefighters got the fire under control in about five minutes, the battalion chief said. Footage from OnScene TV shows firefighters using tools to cut and remove a section of the garage door as smoke billows from the opening.
Baum said no one was injured and the residents were not displaced.
The cause of the fire was undetermined, Baum said. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
