LAKE MATHEWS, CA — Firefighters stopped the forward spread of a brush fire that burned 15 acres south of Corona near Lake Mathews Sunday.
The blaze was reported at 1:03 p.m. in the 10900 block of Dawson Canyon Road, according to Cal Fire/Riverside Country Fire Department.
Officials initially said the flames were burning at a moderate rate.
Ten engine companies, two air tankers and one helicopter responded to the scene and just over an hour later the fire’s forward spread was halted, officials said.
Firefighters were expected to remain in the area for about two more hours to fully contain the fire.
