Police: Child killed in early morning fire in Yreka
Officials are investigating the cause of a house fire that killed a child in Yreka early Monday morning.
The fire broke out about 1 a.m. Monday on Turre Street, according to Suzi Brady, a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Department spokeswoman.
When fire crews arrived, the house was completely engulfed in flames, Brady said. The home was destroyed in the fire and the blaze was contained in about an hour after it broke out.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, but Yreka police Chief Mark Gilman said the person trapped in the home was a child.
