NOW UNDER CONTROL, SOUTH REDDING FIRE THAT FORCED EVACUATIONS DESTROYED ONE HOME, “PARTIALLY DESTROYED” ANOTHER
REDDING, Calif., — Firefighters made quick work extinguishing a fire that forced the evacuations of numerous homes in the south Redding area near Hwy. 273, Westside Road and El Reno Lane.
The blaze, which began as a residential structure fire around 10 a.m. this morning, soon spread to a second home and then to area vegetation – igniting a wildland fire that placed countless other homes in immediate danger. The home where the fire was initially was destroyed by the ensuing blaze, while the second home was “partially destroyed”, according to officials.
Firefighters already battling the Monument Fire were called in to assist, and between the extra resources and precision aerial water drops helped to quickly bring the fire under control, with Redding Fire Department representative Guido Concello saying that having those extra nearby resources helped a lot.
Some people who saw the first fire trucks arrive told Action News Now that the fire spread vegetation towards the structure in a matter of minutes.
Firefighters have not yet determined if anyone had been inside either of the structures that burned and their investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
