4 businesses damaged after large fire rips through Visalia building
Visalia, Calif. (KFSN)-A fire that broke out late Thursday night destroyed a building in Visalia and damaged four businesses inside. Several fire brigades responded to double-decker buildings around 11:30 pm in Houston and Ben Maddoxway.
When the firefighters arrived, they found the flames spreading upstairs and into the attic.
The fire brigade had to take a defensive approach, fighting external flames. Firefighters in Turea County were called in to help extinguish the flames.
Authorities said the building was badly damaged, but they were able to help reduce the amount of smoke damage.
“When we entered the defense operation, we installed a large master chain aerial device and pushed all the smoke into the building. We wanted to get rid of the smoke, so there was a pretty good opening from the back of the building. Sides. We That smoke came out of it, “said Darrin Hughes, chief of the Visalia Fire Battalion.
Four companies were affected by the fire. Two were on the first floor and two were on the second floor.
Firefighters have removed merchandise from one business dealing with antiques and pet birds. All birds were saved before they were defeated by the smoke, officials said.
No one was injured.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
