LAKE CALIFORNIA, Calif. — Firefighters have contained a fire that damaged a home and spread to a neighboring yard in Lake California.
The house fire broke out shortly before noon Tuesday on Blue Ridge Mountain Drive and Big Bend Drive, according to Cal Fire Tehama-Glenn Unit.
“Around noon I was walking in the house and I noticed some smoke and I looked out back and the home directly behind me was on fire,” said Siobhan Shackelford who lives next door. “I began gathering all of our important paperwork and special belongings, I got the animals in their crates ready to get them in my car.”
As the fire began to spread, neighbors jumped into action to stop the flames from spreading to nearby homes.
Heavy smoke could be seen billowing from the roof of the home but at this point, it’s unclear exactly how much damage was done. Firefighters and neighbors were able to get the fire under control, but the flames did spread to one neighboring yard and cause some damage, according to Shackelford.
“It looks like one of the neighbor’s yards was completely burned including part of their deck and propane tank enclosure and that’s the extent of the damage I’ve observed at this point,” she said.
No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
