TEMECULA, CA — Multiple reports of smoke visible near Temecula were due to a small brush fire that broke out Monday west of Interstate 15.
The blaze was reported at 1:39 p.m near Avenida Alvarado and Diaz Road, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
The area is open space, below DeLuz, at the base of the hills, between Rancho California Road and Diaz Road. No structures were immediately near the small blaze. The nearest building is a Rancho California Water District water treatment facility.
Due to the remote area and difficulty accessing, a Cal Fire helicopter was used to drop water on the burning area. A Cal Fire air tanker was also called in and made three drops of fire retardant.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., the flames appeared to be nearly extinguished and fire crews could be seen hiking into the area to fully contain the brusher and investigate.
