A Norfolk firefighter and a civilian rushed into a burning house to save a person inside after they both noticed smoke coming from the residence.
Fast action by a Virginia off-duty firefighter helped rescue a person trapped inside a burning kitchen Monday.
Norfolk firefighter Chris Spence and a civilian were passing a home at the same time when they both noticed smoke coming from the residence, the fire department stated in an online update. Spence and the passer-by rushed into the house, and they were able to pull the victim to safety before crews arrived.
Once firefighters reached the scene, they were able to contain the fire to the kitchen, and it took a little less than a half hour to get the flames under control. The victim was taken to the hospital, and no details were released concerning the extent and nature of the person’s injuries.
